The Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), a 454-bed tertiary care, level-1 trauma center located in Portland, Oregon, is the state’s only academic health center. The Department of Pharmacy Services maintains a largely centralized distribution model, with three decentralized satellite pharmacies and eight clinical pharmacy specialists.
Fifty-seven pharmacists (118 fulltime pharmacy staff members) provide services to both OHSU inpatients and outpatients, with an average of 2,400 orders processed daily by the 24/7 inpatient pharmacy. Without a computerized prescriber order entry system, OHSU utilizes Pyxis Connect to obtain scanned prescriber orders, RxTFC (version 4.01, GE Healthcare – formerly BDM), for order processing, and Pyxis Profile Medstations on all patient care nursing
